Balahé gave birth to her second foal and I can't believe how fast time is passing by!
It seemed only yesterdy, that Balahé's first foal, Belle K, was born...
Hans Karsten is keeping up the damline of my t.b. mare Ionia with any foal he breeds out of her daughter Balahé and idealistiscally, I consider them all "mine"!
And of course I was overly excited when saskatchewan was born and couldn't wait to get to see him!
When Hans took over Balahé age three it was the perfect arrangement for all of us:
I can't keep all my horses, however, I wouldn't want to give up on a filly out of my thoroughbred mare Ionia xx, either. Employing a t.b. mare in warmblood breeding to me is the greatest challenge of all. Failure or success will only be visible in further generations. In order to learn, I want to be able to follow the development of further progeny out of "my" t.b. damline, the descend out of Ionia, that is.
Hans Karsten is a good friend of mine and the former owner of Beltain (sire of Belissimo). Hans has always been a true fan of the hannoverian damline of Dr. Max Schulz, who bred Beltain, Brentano I & II, Wolkenstein I, II & III, Garibaldi I & II and many more. Hans bought Beltain as a young horse from Max Schulz and has bred many foals by him, too. Hans also shares my affinity for t.b. blood in warmblood breeding and when he was looking for a future broodmare, Balahé simply blended in perfectly as she combines both:
highest thoroughbred influence via her mother (t.b. mare Ionia) and as a daughter of Brentano II, she also embodies the very damline of Dr. Max Schulz and those precious genetics Hans used to favour all those years:
Bolero, Grande, Ferdinand, Wendekreis, Marcio xx and many more.

After the birth of Belle K, Hans wanted to breed Balahé to Barclay again.
However, Barclay wasn't available for breeding anymore, so Hans had to look for another stallion to breed to. We had spent a lot of time considering and visiting different sons of Belissimo in order to conclude Hans' breeding principle to inbreed Balahé to the line of Bolero, ideally making use of a son of Belissimo as Belissimo is by Beltain and Hans was the owner of Beltain for all those years.
So it was more a coincidence but a plan when a friend suggested to breed Balahé to Sorento, who is stationed at Jo Hinnemann's barn and meanwhile competes sucessfully in Intermediare I & II.
